I am a firm believer in everyone being able to defend themselves. Even if you are on a tight budget you should be able to purchase a firearm that can be adequate to defend you or your family. So what does one do on a fixed budget? First you do get what you pay for, but there are some quality firearms that can be had for much less money than the ones I suggest early in this blog.
If you are in a non-free state (like CA, MA, NJ, NY, HI, WA or district/territory DC, PR, VI etc) then you might seriously consider going with a lower end pump action shotgun such as a Mossberg Maverick 88 can be had for around $250 and a IAC Hawk 982 for around$200. These would also be good choices for those 18 to 21 that can’t get a pistol but could get a long gun.
If you are looking for a lower cost pistols there are some lower cost options that might fit the defensive line that I feel fit the bill based on my past experience. Does that mean those other pistols aren’t good, no just not ones I would pick for a number of reasons. I have suggested some Taurus’ below, these are from both experience of myself and my family. I too have had some issues with Taurus handguns, but also had some very good experience with them. I do think the quality OF today’s Taurus are on par with other manufactures in terms of failures. When it comes to defensive guns I am brand agonistic as long as they are reliable.
