We enter the second year of this blog! Thanks for sticking with it! With the new year comes promise and hope, but it also brings worry for many. The current issues world wide seem to be spreading wider.
For the most part I stay away from politics in this blog. However, it is important in all we do. I feel every person has the right to defend themselves. It doesn’t matter your politics, religion, color, ethnicity, sexuality, orientation etc. I think you fill find most in the firearms world feel this way. We welcome all from all backgrounds.
There is a tendency in the US right now for disarmament groups to say the Second Amendment is about hunting. The fact of the matter is firearms are tools and those tools can be used for various purposes, but the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It is about the ability to defend yourself. When the writers of the conduction met to ratify the first ten amendments now called the Bill of Rights, it was superficially due to the power the King of England had over its colonies. As the need to have a free state it must be secure.
I have hunted for most of my life, however you will likely find the vast majority of those who own firearms do not hunt. If you look at surveys, most Americans that own firearms it is for self defense. Self Defense is a natural right. Dr John Lott wrote about it:
Most Americans believe that the most important purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to ensure personal protection: Survey https://crimeresearch.org/2023/12/most-americans-believe-that-the-most-important-purpose-of-the-2nd-amendment-is-to-ensure-personal-protection/
As you enter this year, a major election year in the United States, I hope that you remember this when you vote and that you do vote! Support Pro Second Amendment groups. There is a strong movement in the US to disarm all citizens and if you don’t believe it pay attention closely to what has happened in California, New York, and New Jersey.
The majority of states now allow you to carry a firearm in public without a license. Twenty-Seven to be exact at the time this is written. Yet there are states that do not want to allow anyone to carry or have a firearm. It is important that you follow the laws of the state you live in.
I urge you to join and support organizations that represent and fight for your rights. Some of them are listed below, this is just a few of them. I encourage you to join and or donate to one or more.
- Second Amendment Foundation
- Firearms Policy Collation
- Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms
- National Association for Gun Rights
- Gun Owners of America
